TANZANIA (eTN) – Looking for best approaches to attract more American tourists, Tanzania tourist stakeholders are set to meet next week at a travel seminar aimed at learning strategies for marketing this African safari destination to the US tourist markets.

The two-part seminar will be held in Dar es Salaam on the Indian Ocean coast and Arusha in northern wildlife safari circuit. Organizers of the seminar, the Tanzania Tourist Board and Tanzania Confederation of Tourism had invited Lisa Simon, President of the North America’s National Tour Association (NTA) as the key speaker.

Key topics to be discussed and covered are the overview of the contribution of tourism to the global economy, statistics on US travel to Africa, specifically Tanzania and profile of various market segments.

US market segments that Tanzania has not targeted yet are the Faith based travelers, Adventure travelers, Luxury market, Student and Youth interactions, Baby boomers and Mature Americans.

Other topics marked for discussion are the Assessment of Africa and Tanzania as a Brand in correction with these markets, overview of the US Travel Trade and its Distribution system, Profile of National Tour Association, How to market to the travel trade and How to utilize National Tour Association resources to reach the travel trade.

USA jsou v Tanzanii druhým hlavním zdrojem turistů, každý rok zaznamenává přes 55,000 XNUMX turistů, většinou lovců, výrobců fotografických safari a horolezců na Kilimandžáru.

The New York Times said in its early January edition that Tanzania has emerged number seven out of the 45 selected places to go this year. It said that places like Gibb’s Farm, a small lodge from which guests can hike to the Ngorongoro Crater area, were prime destinations for big game viewing.

Apart from Tanzania, other African countries picked by The New York Times as a place to go in 2012 were Morocco (number 26) and Uganda (number 33).

The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) managing director, Dr Aloyce Nzuki, said the selection of Tanzania among the 45 favourable destinations was a positive indicator.

“We have strategies in place aimed at making Tanzania one of the most favorable places to visit,” said Dr Nzuki.

In its article, The New York Times quoted East African travel specialists, including Hippo Creek Safaris and Abercrombie & Kent, as saying that for the last several years, the number of tourists going to Tanzania has been edging up.
